Where to enjoy the snow despite corona

Updated on November 28, 2023

1. Flims Laax Falera

Located in the eastern part of Switzerland in the canton Graubünden, the Flims Laax Falera winter sports region attracts tourists from all over the world. There are 224 km of slopes, 4 snow parks and 28 ski lifts, and about 70% of them are situated at an altitude of between 2’000 and 3’000 meters. Besides snowboard and ski slopes, there are also various sledging runs, about 100 km of hiking and walking trails if you prefer to go for a walk or a snowshoe hike and 3 Fox trails on which you can experience exciting scavenger hunts.

Due to the current situation and corona still being a big issue, the number of one-day and half-day tickets is limited. Besides this, a mouth-nose cover must be worn in all indoor, queuing and transport situations. Unfortunately, the numerous restaurants are also temporarily closed. Many of them now offer a take-away or delivery service, meaning that you will not have to stay hungry during your stay in this beautiful winter paradise.

2. Adelboden-Lenk

In the winter sports region of Adelboden-Lenk in the Bernese Oberland, a total of 6 ski areas tempt you to take a break in the snow. You can enjoy skiing or snowboarding to the full on over 200 kilometres of slopes. There is also plenty of action in the region: there is the Gran Masta Snowpark for freestylers as well as various snowparks for children, a funslope, ski movie tracks where you can be filmed, speed measurements and two skicross parks. Furthermore, there is of course also the possibility of sledging and winter hiking.

Again, due to the coronavirus, the number of tickets are limited. The mask requirement also applies. To ensure that no one has to stay hungry, the restaurants in the region offer catering "to go".

3. Jungfrau Ski Region

Located in the Bernese Oberland, you can enjoy the winter in 3 connected areas in the Jungfrau Ski Region. In two valleys, over three mountain ranges and on 211 kilometers of slopes you can experience fun and action. The winter paradise in front of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau offers skiers and snowboarders as well as snow fans a wide range of activities: Slopes, steep slopes, snow and fun parks, racetracks and powder sections invite you to let off steam.

Regarding corona, the same measures also apply in the Jungfrau Ski Region. It is compulsory to wear a mouth-nose protection indoors, in cable cars and in highly frequented places and to keep the necessary distance. At 4 locations, take-away offers provide for the physical well-being. A special feature here is the money-back guarantee: If the ski area has to close due to a lockdown, the price paid will be partially refunded for the time when the ticket cannot be used.

4. Arosa Lenzerheide

The two holiday regions Arosa and Lenzerheide are located in the canton of Graubünden and have been linked since 2014. This has resulted in a winter paradise with 225 km of slopes, countless sled runs and hiking trails as well as great offer of accommodation. You can also go cross-country skiing, play ice hockey or curling, go ice skating or try your hand at ice stick shooting.

The corona measures already mentioned also apply in this winter sports region. Take-away offers are also available in the charming Arosa Lenzerheide region. It is recommended to purchase tickets online.

5. Aletsch Arena

The winter paradise Aletsch Arena is located in the southwest of Switzerland in the canton of Valais. The range of activities in this recreational area is endless: skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking and sledging are just some of the ways to let off steam while enjoying the beautiful view of the imposing Aletsch Glacier. With a length of 23 km and about 11 billion tons of ice, it is the largest glacier in the Alps and can be visited on guided tours.

As in all other winter sports regions, the corona regulations must be complied with. The operators of the Aletsch Arena recommend buying tickets online. On site, it is still possible to rent snow sports equipment.
